The new Schaudepot is a walk-in museum warehouse in the spectacular industrial setting of the former salt factory on the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. There, the Ruhr Museum displays around 25,000 otherwise hidden treasures from its archaeological, natural science and historical collections. During a guided tour, you will wander through more than 110 years of collection history, get to know key objects and take a look behind the scenes of a regional museum.

 

Tour of the Schaudepot

In this film, the director of the Ruhr Museum, Prof. Heinrich Theodor Grütter, and the curators take you on a tour of the Ruhr Museum's new show depot in the former salt factory of the Zollverein coking plant. The tour lasts about 22 minutes. We hope you enjoy the tour.

Recording of the opening ceremony

On June 26, 2021, the Ruhr Museum's new show depot was ceremoniously opened in the salt warehouse at the Zollverein coking plant. Prof. Hans-Peter Noll welcomed the guests. This was followed by greetings from the Lord Mayor of the City of Essen, Thomas Kufen, the Chairwoman of the Regional Assembly of the Rhineland, Anne Henk-Hollstein, the Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, and the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and the Home Affairs, Anne Katrin Bohle.This was followed by the introduction of our director Prof. Heinrich Theodor Grütter to the new show depot in the former salt factory. The moderator was Matthias Bongard and the musical accompaniment was provided by Ahmet Sisman (The Third Room) with tracks from the STONE TECHNO project. The recording has a length of about 70 minutes.
