Shift in the shaft: On the tour through the exhibition "The Age of Coal. A European History" in the spectacular rooms of the mixing plant at the Zollverein coking plant, visitors can look forward to the 200-year history of coal up to the closure of the last coal mine in Germany in 2018.

A fascinating journey through time begins with a ride on the funicular in the former coal store - in the place where coal was once sorted, stored and mixed to produce 5,000 tons of coke every day. After a cinematic ride on the funicular, visitors* can click their way individually through the exhibitions with over 30 panoramas and zoom in on exhibits in HD quality right up to the description.

The joint exhibition of the Ruhr Museum and the German Mining Museum Bochum was made possible by the RAG Foundation as part of the "Glückauf Zukunft!" initiative. In addition to the selection from the important social and technical history collections of the two participating museums, over 100 international lenders completed the total of over 1,200 exhibited objects with their exhibits.
